it's kickass.
It reminded me of a blog I wrote awhile ago..april 18? about feminism, I'm gonna post it here. Read if you want.
So today I was sitting in World Issues class in the computer lab when an interesting topic came up: feminists. A couple of my friends were exclaiming over a book called 'S.C.U.M: Society for Cutting Up Men.' "She's so feminist!" they said. "The author is so radical!" Ladies, let me teach you Feminism 101: there is a difference between being a feminist and being a man-hater.
Feminists are people against the discrimination of their sex. They fight for women's rights and are against oppression based on the fact that they are simply female. Objectifying of the woman's body is atrocious, reproductive rights and control over one's own body is essential, and gender roles and stereotypes should be squashed.
However, many operate under the firm belief that this goes hand-in-hand with being anti-male. "Men are scumbags! Who needs 'em?" "I decided to become lesbian because I'm feminist and hate men." "All men do is oppress women. None of them have any brains or heart."
HELLO!!!!!! Anti-Male feminists are hypocrites! By being an anti-male feminist, you are discriminating against men based on their sex. You're stereotyping all of them into one large, negative, prejudiced lump. Male-haters commonly objectify men: "All men are good for is sex." I have heard that countless times from one girl or another who claimed to be feminist. However...none of these anti-male feminists practice what they preach. A true feminist believes in and practices her just cause to the full extent. This means not being a hypocrite...because otherwise her point is nullified.
I also have an issue to pick with feminists who aren't male haters - but instead expect the same stereotypical treatment as non-feminists do. They EXPECT chivalry, and barely appreciate it when it is given: doors opened, flowers given, expensive jewelry bought, etc. for them from their significant others on a daily basis, in particular on special days, such as Valentine's Day - and give nothing or little in return, expecting him to all the work. To quote my good guy friends, "You want equal treatment? Open your own damn door!" Don't call yourself feminist and expect preferential treatment! Stand up for what you believe in!
There's no point advocating a just in cause without practicing it. Actions have always been louder than words.
As Mahondas Karamchand Gandhi once said, "BE the change you want to see in the world."

Just kiss me once in the snow, I swear it never gets old.
I asked for an umbrella and you took away the rain.
